Case Study: How an offshore aquaculture farm in Greece improved fish production by using a TelPro solution
An offshore aquaculture farm in Greece had years of experience breeding fish, and a healthy reputation based on their fish production. Successful production of high-quality fish depends on dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in the water, could be obtained by the injection of oxygen into the water. The right DO level results in more-efficient use of feed, a shorter growth period, lower mortality rates, and reduced need for vaccines and antibiotics. A consistently high DO means increased quantity and quality of fish production. The farm measured DO frequently, and manually. This required a continual staff presence on the farm. Not only was this inconvenient and costly, it also resulted in frequent delays in obtaining data. The result was an inconsistent DO level, a smaller quantity of fish, and higher production costs. It was also impossible to predict yields with certainty.
We were asked to monitor and control the DO level in real time. Management also requested easy and secure access to the data from any location, both for management analysis, and for the all-important real-time monitoring of the aquaculture farm. The ultimate goal was that the system would automatically react to incoming data to:

We provided technology to measure the needed parameters:
- A sensor to measure DO
- A long length temperature cable to sense and measure temperature in deep sea salty water, requiring IP68 waterproofed material
- A cloud-based solution with customizable dashboards to provide real-time temperature and DO data from any location
All of these parameters are measured during production, and reported to the cloud-based data management system. The customer can view the data in real-time, and correct DO in response to the information. More importantly, they can set quality limits that trigger TelPro to automatically start or stop injecting oxygen into the water when DO is low, and when weather conditions affect water temperature, and consequently, the DO level.
